Why do they put blinders on horses? Because Humans need ’em…

“Ever wonder why they put blinders on horses? Because us humans in our never-ending idiocy need a lesson now and then…”

‘You try to do the best with what you’ve got and ignore everything else. That’s why horses get blinders in horse racing: You look at the horse next to you, and you lose a step.’ – Jimmy Iovine

I was at the horse races recently, and every time I go I marvel at thoroughbred horses.

The speeds that they attain is truly impressive when you delve in to the actual breeding of them and what’s involved.

And then you see some of the mounts have blinders on…which are the masks that actually cover the sides of their eyes to prevent them from seeing the horses next to them.

All it takes is the slightest bit of hesitation and boom! The glue factory awaits….

I know, a bit mean perhaps, but it does drive a point home…or at least in to the top of the stretch.

Blinders on Horses Eliminates the "Wait a sec..."

When you hesitate due to your competition, you lose. Not only that, focusing on your OWN game, your own vibe and your mission is all that matters. Keeping those blinders on, focusing on your goals almost assures you of reaching them, if you have enough determination and moxie.

Think of it like horse blinders for humans…

I’ve had clients and students alike kill it with their consistency and determination…doing the work that needs to be done to move their businesses forward and then, for some unknown reason (actually it IS known…they gave up) walked away and quit. Then they wondered why ‘it’ didn’t work.

One of the most challenging things to master in business (not to mention life) is not some strategy or plan, but simply embracing delayed gratification.

And…way too many these days are too fixated on comparing themselves to others. Finding influences (NOT influencers) are great (even necessary in most cases), but stick with your plan and believe in your own voice…

It will always serve you well.
